Quincy Police Department Successfully Resolves Incident Involving Suspicious Person

 

Quincy, FL – August 5, 2024 – The Quincy Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious person in the 1300 block of W Jefferson St. on August 5, 2024, at approximately 9:24 AM. The caller reported a black male wearing a white shirt and beige pants behaving erratically and appearing to be under the influence of drugs.

Upon receiving the call, multiple units were dispatched to the scene. Officers arrived and identified the individual in a vehicle, confirming the suspicious behavior. During the encounter, officers discovered a 9 mm handgun, and drugs (Heroin) in the individual’s pocket and noted that the suspect had an open container in the vehicle. Due to the suspect’s behavior and the handgun and drugs in his pocket, a check of his criminal history was conducted, revealing that he was a convicted felon. Consequently, he was placed into custody.

Before towing the vehicle, an inventory search of the vehicle was conducted. Officers found two additional handguns, a semi-automatic rifle. The weapons and drugs were identified as significant threats, further justifying the immediate arrest of the suspect. The individual was transported to the Gadsden County Jail and charged with violations of Florida Statute 790.23 (Felons and delinquents; possession of firearms, ammunition, or electric weapons or devices unlawful) and Florida Statute 893.13 (Possession of a controlled substance).

The Quincy Police Department takes all reports of suspicious activity seriously and commends the swift and professional actions of the responding officers. Their efforts ensured the safety of the community and resulted in the successful resolution of a potentially dangerous situation.
