Residents and Visitors of Quincy:
As we approach the 4th of July, the Quincy Police Department would like to remind everyone of the importance of safety during the celebrations. The holiday is a time for joy and festivities, but it’s crucial to ensure that it remains safe for all. Here are some important guidelines and reminders for celebrating responsibly:
Fireworks Safety
- Legal Fireworks: Only use fireworks that are legal in Florida. Illegal fireworks can cause serious injuries and fires.
- Handling Fireworks: Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Never relight a “dud” firework. Wait 20 minutes and then soak it in a bucket of water.
- Supervision: Children should never handle fireworks. Fireworks should only be used by adults.
- Safe Distance: Light fireworks one at a time, then move back quickly. Keep a safe distance from others.
- Disposal: After the fireworks have burned out, douse them with plenty of water before discarding them to prevent a trash fire.
Fire Safety
- Grill Safety: Keep grills at least 10 feet away from buildings, trees, and deck railings. Never leave a grill unattended.
- Fire Extinguishers: Have a fire extinguisher or a bucket of water close by when using fireworks or grills.
Traffic Safety
- Designated Drivers: If you plan to drink, designate a sober driver or use a ride-sharing service.
- Pedestrian Safety: Be alert when crossing streets and use designated crosswalks.
Emergency Contact Information
- Non-Emergency Line: For non-urgent matters, please contact the Quincy Police Department at 850-627-7111
- Emergency Situations: In case of an emergency, dial 911 immediately.
The Quincy Police Department is committed to ensuring that everyone has a safe and enjoyable 4th of July. By following these safety tips, we can all contribute to a festive and incident-free holiday.
Have a Safe and Happy 4th of July, Quincy!
