PRESS RELEASE -The City of Quincy Prepares for Hurricane Helene Emergency Evacuations and Shelters

Quincy, FL – As Hurricane Helene rapidly intensifies and approaches the Florida Big Bend region, the City of Quincy is taking immediate steps to ensure the safety of its residents by opening emergency shelters and providing transportation for those in need. Starting at 4:00 PM today, September 25, multiple shelters will be available, including general population, special needs, and pet shelters. Transportation to these shelters will be provided by Gadsden County School Transportation and Big Bend Transit from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with designated pick-up locations across the county.

Evacuations and Shelter Information

Mandatory evacuations have been ordered for all residents in mobile homes, substandard housing, and flood-prone areas. The county will open emergency shelters today, September 25, at 4:00 PM. Gadsden County High School will serve as a special needs shelter, pet shelter, and general shelter. Pet owners must bring necessary supplies, including crates, medication, food, a leash, and vaccination records for their pets. West Gadsden Middle School will also open as a general shelter.

If needed, shelter transportation will be provided by Gadsden County School Transportation and Big Bend Transit for residents from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Pick-up locations include:

  • Havana: Harvey’s Supermarket, 102 1st Avenue East

 

  • Midway: Midway City Hall, 50 Martin Luther King Blvd

 

  • Quincy: Piggly Wiggly, 18680 Blue Star Highway; Rose’s and Citi Trends Parking Lot, 1323 West Crawford Street; CRMC Gadsden Campus (Hospital), 23186 Blue Star Highway

 

  • Greensboro: Sawdust Community Park, 3355 Providence Road; Greensboro Elementary School, 559 Greensboro Highway

 

  • Gretna: Gretna City Hall, 14615 Main Street; Oak Grove Church, 3510 Atwater Road

 

  • Chattahoochee: Chattahoochee Elementary School, 335 Maple Street
